1:1 tuition
Everything else here is free and always will be. This page is the exception, and I would rather put it plainly than dress it up.
That is the whole offer. No package, no block booking, no minimum commitment, no tier above it.
What you should know first#
You probably do not need this. The curriculum on this site is the complete path from nothing to thirty minutes of real music, and it is free. I built it that way on purpose. If you are at the beginning, go and use it.
It is not a shortcut. An hour with me will not compress six months of practice into an afternoon. Nobody’s hour can do that.
What it is genuinely good for is the thing video cannot do: someone watching your hands, on your instrument, and telling you the one thing you cannot see about how you play. Usually that is a technique habit that is quietly limiting everything downstream — a wrist angle, a strike that is all impact and no release, a tension you have stopped noticing.
That is a real service and it is worth real money. It is also, honestly, an hour — not a transformation.
When it actually helps#
- You are stuck and you cannot tell why. You practise, and it is not getting better, and you have watched the video four times.
- Something hurts. Take this seriously and come early rather than late. Hand, wrist and shoulder problems in handpan players are almost always technique or ergonomics, and both are fixable before they become injuries.
- You have crossed the second milestone and want to work on something specific: a piece, a groove vocabulary, performing, or getting your playing to hold up in front of people.
- You are coming from another percussion instrument and want to bring that vocabulary across rather than starting from scratch. This is the thing I am most useful for.
How it works#
Online, over video, one hour. You need the instrument, somewhere you can play without worrying about neighbours, and a way to point a camera at your hands from above or the side. A phone on a stack of books is fine.
Before the session I will ask you to send a short clip of you playing, so I am not spending the first fifteen minutes finding out what I am looking at.
Pay after, not before. If the hour was not useful, tell me and do not pay it. I mean that literally and I would rather it happened occasionally than have a policy that makes it awkward.
Booking#
Tell me roughly where you are — what instrument you have, how long you have been playing, and what specifically you want to work on. I will reply with times.
