Myths and misconceptions

The claims about handpans that circulate hardest, sorted into the ones that are simply false, the ones that are ten years out of date, and the ones that are true in a much narrower sense than they are usually stated.

What this section is for#

The handpan attracts more confident misinformation than almost any other modern instrument. Some of it is harmless naming confusion, some is search-engine feedback, some is marketing, and a little of it costs people real money or delays them getting real help.

Each entry states the myth plainly, gives a short corrective answer, and then sets out what the evidence actually supports. Where something is genuinely uncertain, or where a myth has a true observation buried in it, that is said rather than glossed over.
